And more are being added at White Oak and other venues around the city, as talent buyers connect with bands eager to resume touring. Many of those shows - Deftones, Slightly Stoopid, Mountain Goats - are concerts rescheduled from 2020.

A few GRID lawn shows are scheduled for the venue this summer, but by July, White Oak appears ready to welcome concertgoers back full time, with shows on both of its indoor stages along with the outdoor setup. On April 30, White Oak is scheduled to host Matthew Logan Vasquez of the band Delta Spirit for a rare indoor show - if it actually happens. House of Blues has been more tentative with performances in its restaurant, but only a couple are currently on the schedule for its main room: Bidi Bidi Banda on May 21 and Reverend Horton Heat on May 22. Smaller venues such as Warehouse Live and McGonigel’s Mucky Duck opened tentatively last year with strict caps on attendance. Like most other venues, White Oak has endured stops and starts over the past year. Now there’s nothing stopping the venue from a full reopen, other than trying to remain diligent during difficult times and working with artists who want to return to performing but don’t want to create unnecessary risks for themselves or for fans. As a booker for White Oak Music Hall, he endured a maddening year that saw the venue postpone some shows once, then twice, before salvaging some events with an innovative outdoor concert approach that allowed fans to buy socially distant pods in its GRID system. “But basically, since shows kept getting canceled, the pandemic gave me more time to work on songs, to do some home recording.”Īs spring gives way to summer, Larson finds his work in different stages of reactivation. “I’ve always worked from home, so nothing changed there,” he says.
